Each November, the Women’s Business Network presents the Woman of the Year Award to honor a woman who embodies the spirit of WBN and who best exemplifies the WBN mission statement. Our committee is made up of previous WOTY recipients. We base our decision on member input and on the following personal attributes:

• Leadership inside and outside of WBN
• Business success
• Personal growth & professional growth
• Networking acumen
• Professional education
• Provides support to women

We are fortunate in WBN to have such a strong group of women who are all deserving of such an honor. Thank you for your submissions. However, we could only choose one and we chose the one that embodies these attributes and had the most overwhelming majority of votes.

Our 2010 Woman of the Year has spent her entire life helping others in a cheerful, encouraging and uplifting manner.  As a young  single mother with four young children, she worked hard and long to assure they received the very best care and all the love they needed to grow into the amazing and successful people they are today.  For years she commuted 50+ miles daily, putting in her 8 hours to earn a living before and after mothering her kids.  As a office professional for the City of Springfield, she impressed everyone with her abilities and attitude.  One of her many co-worker friends commented that she was initially intimidated by this woman’s professionalism and perfectly coiffed demeanor.

Once you spend a little time with this woman, as many of us in the group have, you know she is about fun and support.  Always sporting her twinkling smile, always giving a hand up for her sisters when needed, she can be counted on to help others find their joy and express it.  A networker extraordinaire, she lives and breathes communication with women.  When she decided to go into business for herself, she chose the professional arena that allowed her to do what mattered most to her, i.e., helping women just like herself earn extra income and realize their very best selves.
Empowering other women and raising their self-esteem continues to be her focus.  Who is this powerful and energetic woman?   When your laugh lines are no longer funny, she’ll put a twinkle in your wrinkle and help you see the beauty in yourself  – congratulations to our 2010 Woman of the Year – Johanna Dahlin.

I also want to recognize and congratulate the other WOTY nominees, all of them worthy, all of them recognized by their peers as outstanding examples of service and caring throughout this community.  Keri Brown, Elaine Hartley, Jill LaRue, Jeannie Marr, Megan Miller, Pat Rollins, and Amber Wilson. Congratulations to all of you!
